As we wind down Phase One of our epic road trip across this great country, I can’t help but take stock of all that we’ve done over the past 18 weeks. Or even farther back—to when we sold the house, purged our belongings, said goodbye to friends, and, after 28 years of marriage, made a leap into something completely new.

I can say unequivocally that Gary and I had the courage to try, the determination to persist, and, most importantly, the love and respect to lift each other up—especially on the days we found each other most annoying, were tired of driving, stressed about RV living, or overwhelmed by any of the countless things that can challenge a long vacation (and a marriage).

Neither of us knows for certain what the future holds, or where it will take us—but at least we’ll be driving there together, ready to share our stories with both old and new friends.
