We had a wonderful stay at Oak Mountain State Park. It is an expansive park, with a large campground divided into A & B Loops. The site was well shaded and gravel pad was level. The restrooms were individual toilet/shower rooms with cement flooring. The added privacy they provide is a nice departure from the standard dormitory style bathhouse in most campgrounds.
The electric pedestals were well maintained, and the power quality was excellent. There was water and sewer hookup on the site and water pressure was good. Site A16 is a back in site and is at a diagonal to the street. While it is short, and tight for an additional tow vehicle, it has the added bonus of having a separate tent pad, which is on a lower level behind the RV site. This is great if you have a screen room as the site itself is a bit too narrow to have one set up adjacent to the camper.
The staff were mostly youngsters, but helpful. There is a gate to the campground, operated by a keypad, providing security for campers. The Main entrance to the park is manned 24 hours/day but the North, or back, gate is closed after dark.
There are numerous activities within the park – extensive mountain biking and hiking trails, a couple of lakes with beaches, water sport activities, canoe and kayak rentals, and picnic areas. Other amenities include an archery range, equestrian center, golf course, and even a BMX track.
The park is very close to town but, being a large park, the campground is a bit of a drive from the main gate. Outside of the park gate is a center of business with many services nearby.
Cell service was good and the park also had a solid wifi service.
