On the positive side – the state park and campground are very nice. This section is along the lakefront and is very scenic. The park is large and has several hiking and mountain biking trails as well as horseback riding. There is a small, rocky beach, and a little marina that you can rent pontoon boats or kayaks from. Prices for these seemed a bit on the high side compared to some other state parks but appeared to be in good shape and we enjoyed paddling around the branch of the lake.
While many of the campsites look to be very nice, site 131 should be avoided. It is adjacent to some new construction currently in progress but other factors make it less desirable. The site is tight for a 32′ motorhome and the rest of the site is crowded and not flat.
While the deer and beaver are plentiful and lovely to watch, when we were there in June, the bugs were very bad. Each time we went outside, we had to do a tick check and often had 1 or 2 on us and the dogs each time. There are also a lot of black flies – the type that bite.
The new construction area looks like it will be very impressive. The new sites will be large, level, concrete pads with full hookups. There were nearing completing at the end of June ’25 but there are no trees or grass yet.
The verdict is that it is a great campground to enjoy the nearby Lake of the Ozarks. Avoid site 131 and be prepared for lots of ticks and it will be a great visit!
